Monsac International

Our story

A small leather-goods house, built around bags made to be carried for years.

What Monsac means

“Monsac” comes from the French mon sac — “my bag.” It is the whole idea in two words: a bag that becomes yours, that you reach for every day and carry until the leather is worn soft and the shape is your own.

The leathers we work in

We build from full-grain, vegetable-tanned and pebbled leathers — hides that keep their natural grain rather than being sanded and coated. Full-grain is the strongest part of the hide and the part that takes on a patina; vegetable tanning gives an edge that finishes cleanly and deepens in colour with use.

Because the leather is real, no two pieces are quite the same. Grain and colour vary from hide to hide, and we think that is the point, not a flaw.

How we think about a bag

We keep the range tight and design our own shapes, so each style earns its place. A bag has to carry well, close securely, and still look right after a few years of being lived with. We edge-finish and stitch for that, not for a photograph.

Leather is best judged in the hand

Photographs only go so far. Our showroom in Moonachie, NJ is open by appointment, so you can feel the grain, the weight and the finish before you decide.
